Hello Bees!! Hope you all are doing great. I cook this spicy prawn masala gravy with a tadka (tempering) twist to make it spicier…Yum. Prawn, a well known sea food cooked in a spicy masala gravy. You need some basic ingredients which is mostly available in Asian kitchen. Addition of a tempering takes this dish to the next level of spiciness. Happy cooking 🙂

For Garnishing:

  • Lemon wedges
  • Silted green chili

How to make:

To marinate and shallow Fry the Prawn-

  1. Clean and wash prawn (DE-veined the prawn properly). Pat it dry.
  2. Add salt and turmeric. Mix it well and keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
  3. In a pan heat 1 tbsp oil.
  4. Then put the marinated prawn and fry it for 2 minutes. Do not over fry the prawn or else it will taste rubbery.
  5. Keep it aside.

To cook the gravy-

  1. In a grinder jar, put all the ingredients from “to make a gravy paste” (see ingredients) list and grind it to a smooth paste.
  2. Keep it aside.
  3. In a kadhai, put cumin seeds and let it crackle.
  4. Put the flame on low and add turmeric, red chili powder. Fry it for few seconds.
  5. Now add the pre-made paste and mix it properly.
  6. Fry it until the oil start to separate.
  7. Flame should be on medium and you need to stir it to avoid burning the masala.
  8. Now add tomato with some salt and cover it until it gets soften.
  9. Now add hot water to the pan. Let it boil then add fried prawn and half of coriander leaves.
  10. Cover it and Cook it for 5-10 (depending upon how much water you have added) minutes.
  11. Add coriander leaves, stir it and switch off the flame.

For tadka/tempering:

  1. In a small pan or a tadka pan, add oil and let it heat.
  2. Add chopped garlic, crushed chili, sesame seeds and curry masala.
  3. Fry it until aroma came. Then pour it over the prawn masala curry.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves, sliced onion and lemon wedges.
  5. Serve it hot with plain rice or roti.
